Benches on Parade, a community arts project announced in August 2009, is searching for local artists to become official bench artists and the deadline is approaching. This unique and popular opportunity will showcase each artist's talent, while supporting our community. Each artist will receive a $2,000 honorarium for each design chosen by a sponsor. The deadline to become an official artist is September 30.
To become an official Benches on Parade artist, please request an application form at www.benchesonparade.com
Artist's can submit as many designs as they would like!
I’m curious to see what the Rochester artists create out of the blank benches that I made. I’m the guy who designed the original form and helped make the fiberglass benches for this event. When I last saw them, they were all exactly the same shape and color but I’m sure that they won’t all look the same when they are on Parade! I think I gave the artists something good to start with, but I’m sure I won’t even recognize some of them after. That’s what makes my job so fun!
We have great news to share with our blog community. With so many non-profits looking for unique and creative ways to fundraise Benches on Parade has decided to provide 10 grants of $1000 each to local not-for-profits making it a little easier to sponsor a bench. We are looking for the most creative and unique approaches to utilizing the bench as a fundraiser for your non-profit.
In order to participate, each non-profit would need to submit a creative bench design concept, along with their unique plan for utilizing the bench as a fundraiser.
Not sure what to do, but interested in participating. Attend one of our Lunch n’ Learn Clinics. We will help spark ideas that will help each non-profit turn Benches on Parade into a successful, community fundraiser.

Wow, I have so much to share with you all.
We just confirmed that Golden Artist Color Paint Company will be joining the Artist workshop on October 15. They will provide great tips for the artists on working with fiberglass and more.
Our team had a meeting with Mayor John Holden from Victor. The village businesses will be discussing this week how they can decorate Victor with benches! This is electrifying, and is sparking the conversation and flow of ideas that we dreamed Benches on Parade would.
Finally I will leave you with a sneak peak of what’s to come. We are currently in discussions with a major international artist to decorate some of our benches…much more to follow!
Nazareth College president Daan Braveman, Dixon Schwabl CEO Lauren Dixon, COMIDA executive director Judy Seil and Dixon Schwabl managing partner Howie Jacobson announced the fun-tastic, community arts project, Benches on Parade at a press conference on the steps of Nazareth College on August 4, 2009. To date Benches on Parade has sold nearly 50 benches to various businesses and organizations, working towards the goal of 200 benches to fill our neighborhoods, sidewalks and parks.
I remember how excited our community was when the Horses on Parade project hit the streets! The spirit & pride of Rochester was at an all time high! I am so excited that this energy is back with the Benches on Parade project! It will be fun to travel around the Greater Rochester region to see the artistic designs on the benches, sit and read a book or the newspaper—share time with family & friends! Can’t wait!! HJ
